Business Studies

The topical nature of Business and Economics prepares students for future study and work. In Business we investigate marketing strategies, finance, operations, human resources and business strategy. In Economics we study how our scarce resources are allocated and the difficult decisions households, firms and governments have to make in doing this. We use theory in addition to qualitative and quantitative data to overcome problems and provide solutions. We use a diverse range of theorists, texts and economic/business models to give advice in challenging scenarios. Students are encouraged to take on wider reading and an approach of autonomy for learning about diverse economies and the changing business world.

As a department we aim to:

  • Provide students the opportunity to be creative when developing business and economic strategies.
  • To engage students with social, moral & ethical factors in the business and economic world around them.
  • Make students determined and confident to do well and improve their academic writing skills.
  • Prepare students for future careers through exposure to raise aspirations. Encourage students to be respectful and resilient in a safe environment, allowing students to demonstrate commitment and act on feedback.
  • Analyse business and economic decisions in the world around us to enable students to be successful.
