PE
The nature of our PE curriculum allows students to explore a wide range of physical activities throughout each key stage. We encourage students to make informed choices about all aspects of leading a healthy active lifestyle, both in and out of school. Our assessment strands of resilience, teamwork and cooperation, physical attributes and confidence and application will channel the focus of our students throughout all activities and focus on them as a whole, not just the physical aspect of the subject. We believe that this is key for students’ lifelong engagement with leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
Through our varied curriculum, students will explore their creative skills by having to overcome challenges in team games and when planning personalised fitness activities. They will be determined to achieve personal bests and to develop their physical skills and tactical understanding. In addition, they will be challenged to be competitive against each other, whilst upholding the highest standards of respect and sportsmanship that naturally comes within the world of sport and PE.
Year 9
Students will follow a carousel of activities throughout the year, with each block lasting around 3 weeks (6 lessons). The aim in Year 9 will be for students to experience a wide range of activities and develop more advanced skills, with the view of them being able to select a pathway for Y10/11 PE which suits their aspirations and preferences.
The activities could include:
Football, Netball, Hockey, Handball, Rugby, Badminton, Basketball, Dance, Fitness using the weights room, Trampolining, Gymnastics, Athletics, Rounders, Tennis, Cricket and many more!
Year 10-11
Our students have the opportunity to select OCR GCSE PE or OCR Cambridge National Level 2 in Sports Studies as one of their options.
Sixth Form
Students can continue to study PE at A-Level or the Level 3 OCR Cambridge CTEC Award.
There is a Football Development Programme offered where we work alongside Luton Town Football Club. The school has two full time coaches at Cedars Upper. This also runs through Year 9-11 in Core PE and extra curricular activities.
Extra-Curricular Activities
The PE department runs an extensive Extra-Curricular programme. We welcome students to join our leisure lunchtime activities or for the more competitive our after school clubs and teams. Teams compete in a wide variety of sports and achieve success at district, regional and national level. Clubs and fixtures change every term.
